proclaims the final week in November 
At a special function at Kings House on November 16, Governor-General of Jamaica, His Excellency Sir Howard Cooke, officially proclaimed the final week in November "Geosciences for Development Week". This will be celebrated each year beginning in 2005.

In front of a small audience comprising GSJ Council Members, the Governor-General remarked on the contribution of geology to the development of Jamaica and praised the different generations of geologists present at Kings House.

The Governor-General was presented with a specially-prepared rudist collection by Dr Simon Mitchell and Dr Gavin Gunter.

The week will feature many activities, culminating in the 50th Anniversary Conference, Banquet and Field Trip series.
